In January 2015 a short documentary titled Dangerous Things went online: an eighteen-minute portrait of me and the implant company I named it after. It was made by Justus Sturkenboom, a lecturer in Communication and Multimedia Design at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences; my archive notes still point to his CMD Amsterdam program right alongside the original upload.
The title needed no decoding. Dangerous Things was, and is, the implant company I run out of my home in Washington State, and calling a film about it Dangerous Things saved everyone a marketing meeting.
A standalone documentary short is a different animal from the television segments that dominate the earlier years of this archive. A broadcast producer needs the needle shot and the door opening inside ninety seconds; a filmmaker with eighteen minutes can let the subject explain what any of it is for. Sturkenboom published the film on January 6, 2015, and it has lived in my archive ever since.
