On December 18, 2024, a technology channel called TechStorm published a short explainer titled "VivoKey ID Chip Implant: Replace Passwords, Keys, and Cards with a Wave of Your Hand!" Full disclosure: "VivoKey ID" is their coinage, not ours; you will not find a product by that name in the VivoKey lineup. But as a three-minute summary of what we have spent years building toward, the framing is hard to argue with.
The video describes an implant doing what our platform is for: letting you "access devices, unlock doors, log in to accounts, and authenticate securely with a simple wave of your hand," over NFC, "similar to how contactless payments work but specifically customized for identification and security."
Behind the scenes, 2024 was a transition year for VivoKey. In January we shipped Spark Actions, a dedicated app for what happens when someone taps your Spark implant with their phone, and completed the Auth API that our newer services are built on, with the VivoKey Cloud platform and federated services in the works. The public face of the platform was Apex: contactless payments, security key authentication (TOTP, U2F, PGP and friends), and Tesla keycard registration.
When third-party channels start explaining your product category back to their audiences, and getting it broadly right, you have moved from evangelizing to existing. That is the milestone this post marks.
