The coverage started politely enough: a week after the March 2005 Boing Boing wave, BME Magazine asked for the first formal interview, a good one apart from a misquote about nipple piercings I'd rather not relitigate. But it was Jennifer's implant in December 2005 that lit the fuse. Suddenly there was an "RFID couple," Valentine's Day was around the corner, and for most of 2006 the phone did not stop. One observation from that season has aged well: it never ceases to amaze me how media professionals will generally have a story already written before they even contact you, just so you can fill in the blanks for them.
The strangest booking had no cameras at all. On March 27, 2006, I went on the Bob Rivers Show on Seattle's KZOK and implanted Bob live on the air. Radio was a strictly audio-era artifact, so there's no video below; you'll have to take my word that it was a fun show to do.
March 1, 2006 was its own compressed circus: the Seattle Times ran a profile, two local stations aired blink-and-miss-it spots, and that evening I was on stage at DorkBot Seattle doing a live implantation. The rest of the year rolled on through business television, daytime TV, and one fully produced CNN segment that never aired. Everything that survived on tape is below, in order.
