On June 21, 2023, I joined What the (Bio)Hack?!, Bronic's podcast, for an eighty-six-minute conversation about biohacking and implantables. The show describes its mission as discovering "what the hack security means for biology," interviewing "some of the world's mad scientists and rad hackers across deceivingly unrelated disciplines to uncover what the future holds and how we can design against crime."
The episode notes introduce me as "technologist, Author & Double RFID Implantee" (capitalization and ampersand theirs) and start the story where it always starts: 2005, an RFID chip in my hand, doors and gadgets. From there we had the room television never allows: what "biohacking" covers as an umbrella term for DIY and open-source hardware projects, "from Arduino to RFID toys and beyond," where implantable technology fits within it, and how you design systems against crime rather than discovering the crime later.
Podcasts earn their place in this archive because of that room. A cable segment gets ninety seconds of implant footage; an hour and a half gets you the reasoning.
