On February 20, 2006, I taped an interview for CBC Television's The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos, which aired that day or the next. The show was barely a year old at that point (it had premiered in January 2005) and would later be renamed George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight.
This landed in the thick of the February 2006 run: five days after the CTV "RFID couple" story went up, five days after Canada AM, four days after Tucker Carlson, and a couple of weeks before Good Morning America. Canadian media had extra energy for the story: Jennifer lived in Vancouver, so half of it was a local angle for them.
CBC kept calling that year, too. In June, CBC Radio's The Current did a five-minute interview with me for a longer RFID segment that also featured Canada's privacy commissioner. I thought it was going to be an interesting conversation about privacy; they cut everything except the basic details about the implant itself. The edit somehow removed even the interviewer's voice from my portion. And as I grumbled on the blog at the time: "it never ceases to amaze me how I can speak directly with media types who can say my name just fine over the phone, then take a failed stab at it 2 minutes later on the air."
